The problem with media.

When I was little, whenever I saw a commercial for a razor- there was a beautiful woman promoting it, with soft clean legs and underarms- no hair to begin- less after the “clean shave” had been done.
I grew up thinking, If all these woman thought shaved legs and underarms are beautiful, than that is the norm, that’s how it’s supposed to be, that is what’s pretty, it was acceptable. And on tampon commercials, the women were happy and pretty and didn’t look pained, they were comfortable and fresh- and that’s how I imagined it would be.
And these young men saw the same commercial and thought the same thing. They didn’t expect the hormones, they didn’t expect women with body hair- and growing up with the imagines pushed all over us, it’s easy to understand why people of both sexes would be very confused or uncomfortable by something natural.
We’re raised, and we’re raising, a group of people who fear what is natural, who are uncomfortable with not only their own bodies but other bodies as well, from everything to grey hairs, to leg hairs, comfortable periods, etc etc.
It’s not really anyone’s fault 100% to say that they get uncomfortable by something that they were raised to be taught was “inappropriate” or “gross”. I grew up being thought body hair was gross- naturally, I’ll still kind of think that. It’s natural, I’m aware of that, but so is body oder and loads of people think that’s gross. It’s the way we’re raised. I agree there should be change, but I also believe that attacking people because of how their raised is only going to push us backwards.
